Stop by any library location between December 1st and January 31st to pick up your AWR card and complete any six of the challenges. Return your completed card to your local library to receive a stylish bird feeder (while supplies last) to help welcome all your winged friends this winter.

To commemorate this year’s Adult Winter Reading, SCPL is hosting a variety of programs for adults at every library location, including the following events:
Lauded thriller writer Jeffery Deaver will be in Spartanburg to promote his latest novel in the bestselling Lincoln Rhyme series, The Watchmaker’s Hand. The event area will open at 6:30pm. The library will give away a limited number of copies of The Watchmaker’s Hand to celebrate, and Deaver will sign books after the event.

Learn about the life of the talented military strategist and Continental Army General Nathanael Greene at SCPL winter edition of Chautauqua. The general will discuss major events of his life including his time on the front lines of the American War for Independence.

Fantasy novelist Elayne Audrey Becker is inspired by the world around her, and writes stories that merge together her passions for history, myth, mountains and magic. Becker will speak about her novel Forestborn, her writing process, and her previous work as an Assistant Editor at Macmillan.

R. F. Kuang will not be able to visit Spartanburg in January, but we are working to bring her here at a later date.
Nebula Award-winner R.F. Kuang has written historical fantasy, dark academia, and literary fiction, and was recently added to the 2023 Time100 Next list.
Her most recent work, Yellowface, is a riotous novel written in first-person that dives into questions of diversity, racism, and cultural appropriation. In addition to discussing Yellowface, Kuang will answer questions about her critically acclaimed bestsellers Babel and The Poppy War trilogy.
