JOB TITLE: Desktop Administrator, Grade 23
LOCATION: Headquarters Library
DATE AVAILABLE: December 1, 2023
SALARY: $41,310 annually to $46,850 annually (Includes generous benefits package)

HOURS: 40 hours per week
40 hours per week – Exempt position

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Must complete pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain desktops and laptops across the library system.
  • Monitor hardware and software performance, addressing issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, updates, and repairs, as necessary.
  • Customize desktop and laptop configurations to meet the needs of library staff and patrons.
  • Ensure software installations and updates are compliant with library policies and standards.
  • Implement and enforce security protocols to protect library systems from external threats.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents and conduct regular security audits.
  • Design, monitor, and maintain SCPL’s Active Directory / Group Policy environment.
  • Monitor and maintain SCPL’s security software (Antivirus systems, SIEM, DNS filtering)
  • Collaborate with the Director of Systems to identify and procure hardware and software solutions.
  • Serve as the primary contact for SCPL’s computer/laptop lease and purchasing program.
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies for library operations.
  • Provide technical support to library staff and patrons as the lead contact for desktop and laptop assistance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve desktop and laptop-related problems by addressing hardware and software issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, hardware inventory, and software licenses.
  • Document procedures, troubleshooting guides, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to ensure seamless integration of desktop and laptop systems with network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with library management to identify training needs, technology needs and opportunities for staff.
  • Work with other IT staff on special projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Serve as a backup for Server Administration and participates in 24/7 on-call support rotation schedule.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in desktop and laptop administration, preferably in a library or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, including Windows and macOS.
  • Strong knowledge of managing Active Directory and managing Group Policy
  • Familiarity with network protocols, security measures, and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification in relevant IT areas (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician) is a plus.
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of South Carolina.
