The Spartanburg County Public Libraries are seeking a Student Intern to assist the
Children’s Department. This internship program is designed to allow students to work
in a public library setting and gain hands-on experience and valuable skills.
HOURS: 8 hours per week, not to exceed a total of 40 hours per month
• Fall Semester (September – November)
DRESS CODE: Clothing must be clean and presentable. You must wear pants and a shirt with no graphics unless you wear a library t-shirt.
EDUCATION: Must have completed high school and enrolled in a semester of college.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Attend all trainings scheduled for the Fall Intern Cohort
Assist with development and execution of passive and in person programming
Assist with engaging the public during community outreach programs in the
local area schools, childcare centers, or other public spaces or special events
Assist in maintaining an attractive children’s area in the library including shelf
reading/straightening, refilling displays, and continued organization of
elementary zone, baby zone, and imaginative play areas.
Provide input on department initiatives and library services
Complete a post-internship survey form upon completion of the requirements
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Energetic and enthusiastic with a positive attitude and a willingness to do
whatever is required
Organized, punctual, and able to adhere to a schedule
Willing to take direction, learn quickly, and work independently
Ability to work quickly and accurately without close supervision
BENEFITS:
All interns will receive a stipend and a free t-shirt.
Course Credit: Any student interested in receiving credit for their internship must consult their professor or academic advisor to determine eligibility.
