The
Spartanburg County Public Libraries (SCPL) are seeking a Student Intern to
assist the Local History Department with processing interviews in its oral
history collection. This internship program is designed to allow students
the opportunity to work in a public library setting, while gaining hands-on
experience and valuable skills.
JOB TITLE: Local History Intern LOCATION: Headquarters Library SALARY: $11 per hours
HOURS: 5 - 10 hours per week, not to exceed a total of 40 hours per month
DRESS CODE: Clothing must be clean and presentable. You must wear pants and a shirt with no graphics unless you wear a library t-shirt.
EDUCATION: Must have completed high school and enrolled in a semester of college.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create transcripts of oral history
interviews following established transcription guidelines
Proofread transcripts
Research information mentioned in
interviews that might require further clarification
Write a short summary of each interview
and a short bio for each interviewee
Edit and clean up audio files
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Interest in local history and/or oral
histories
Positive attitude with the ability to
take direction and work independently
Organized, detailed-oriented, and
adaptable
Excellent writing and listening skills
Comfortable communicating with library staff and the public
Familiarity with Microsoft Word and audio
editing software, such as Audacity, is a plus
