JOB TITLE: Facilities Maintenance Helper, Grade 17
LOCATION: Headquarters Library
DATE AVAILABLE: December 1, 2025
SALARY: $2,305 per month (Includes generous benefits package)

HOURS: 40 hours per week

Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm(Note: Must be flexible to accommodate emergency situations that may arise.)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in general building maintenance and related work. • Must be able to lift 70 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Must pass pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds; washing and cleaning vehicles; performing custodial tasks; maintaining appearance of grounds;
Performs and assists with commercial/industrial building maintenance tasks; routine plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and cleaning tasks such as: maintenance on bath fixtures, water and sewer pipes, changes lamps, ballasts and HVAC filters, adjusts thermostats, changes back up batteries, paints furniture, walls, buildings, and builds small wooden furniture;inspects roofs; cleans drains;
Washes and vacuums vehicles; cleans vehicle interior; checks tire pressure and lights; refills gas tanks and checks fluid levels;
Ensures grounds are clean; empties trash cans;
Helps set up meeting rooms; assists with custodial duties; restocks dispensers; cleans up spills; cleans walls and windows;
Runs errands as needed; delivers books to branches; assists with receiving shipments; loads and unloads shipments; fills supply requests;
Assists with upkeep of water fountain at Headquarters;
Remains aware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate action as needed;

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some general building maintenance experience.
General knowledge of building and grounds maintenance practices and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and library patrons.
SCPL uses multi-factor authentication for network and program access. Employees may be required to use their personal device for MFA.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of South Carolina; good 10 year driving record.
