JOB TITLE: Director of Outreach, Grade 30
LOCATION: Headquarters Library

SALARY: $58,127 annually (Includes generous benefits package)

HOURS: 40 hours per week

Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (Note: Must be flexible to accommodate for festivals or outreach events)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Master’s Degree from an accredited school with a background and experience in Library Science, Education, Social Work, or related fields. Must complete pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Oversees the Outreach Department budget and staff including Homebound and Volunteer services, Bilingual Outreach services, and Bookmobile services.
Develops objectives and key results based on SCPL’s Strategic Plan for the Outreach Department and clearly communicates these objectives with Library staff.
Stays informed of patron needs relating to outreach, including managing the online Outreach Services Request form.
Builds relationships within the community by attending meetings and connecting to local organizations, especially those representing the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities within Spartanburg County.
Works with staff around the system to provide guidance and planning to ensure attractive, dynamic, welcoming outreach programs and initiatives for Spartanburg County residents.
Prepares reports related to outreach objectives and outcomes.
Stays current on outreach trends by keeping up with relevant literature and resources.
Represents SCPL at conferences and events related to outreach.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Master’s Degree from an accredited school with a background and experience in Library Science, Education, Social Work, or related fields
Three years of supervisory experience
Comprehensive knowledge of outreach services and best practices
Knowledge of professional library principles, procedures, and practices. Public library experience preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience maintaining budgets
Excellent technology skills, including knowledge of digital devices and the Microsoft Office Suite
Forward-thinking, creative, and organized with a strong work ethic that demonstrates an ability to meet deadlines and set and accomplish long-term goals

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that display a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and a cultural sensitivity to engage with people from all backgrounds and age groups
Ability to build teams and exercise initiative, independent judgment, and flexibility
Valid driver’s license in order to drive to other libraries or community outreach events
