The Library accepts applications
for available positions only. An individual must
complete an official Spartanburg County Public Library Application Form in
order to be considered an applicant for employment.
NOTE: A resume CANNOT be used as a substitute for an employment form or work history but may be attached as additional information.
Applicants
who do not meet the availability and minimum education and experience
requirements indicated in the job posting or do not have the ability to
perform the essential functions for the position, with or without
accommodation, will not be considered for employment.

Bachelor’s Degree required ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plans, promotes and presents programs for teens, tweens and homeschoolers, including games, crafts and movies Communicates library information and makes regular visits to teens and tweens at local schools Provides input on the teen collection to the Director of Teen Services Provides input on the tween collection to the Director of Children’s Services Participates in regular teen and tween committee meetings, online discussions and book reviews Assists public with information requests, reader’s advisory questions, and computers Assists with all circulation duties

Background in business librarianship, law librarianship, or
government documents librarianship preferred but not required ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists Director of Reference Services with management and supervision; providing reference services; responding to questions; assisting patrons; assisting with collection development; maintaining records and files. Helps select and train new employees for assistant, clerk and page positions including review of applications, interviewing applicants and assisting with hiring decisions; Selects, evaluates usage, and weeds government documents depository collections; Liaises with State and Federal depository librarians and maintains expertise in functioning government information providers; Helps to plan, organize, and present a variety of programs and events, especially in the business and legal communities; Manages contact with principle vendor (WESTLAW) and communicates with members of the Law Library Committees; Responsible for collection development, including selection and weeding, for designated area(s) of the non-fiction collection; maintains budget for collection area; Prepares and maintains weekend rotations, weekly schedules and desk schedules as requested; Serves as Librarian in Charge on designated nights and weekends;
Remains aware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate
action as needed; KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Strong commitment to delivery of excellent customer service. Ability to assist patrons with conducting research, print and electronic. Extensive experience with print and electronic research. Ability to teach computer and research classes to the public. Comprehensive knowledge of needs and current interests of library patrons. Must enjoy working with the public of all ages. Experience and proficiency with current library technology, including Internet, research databases, productivity software, and communications applications. Knowledge of public library principles, procedures, materials and practices. Solid organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work closely with others or alone.
